Special Education Language ? 10 Acronyms You ... - Family Education

The special education system in Ontario has a language all their own. If you are parents of a child who was exceptional as recently identified by the school, you may be in the language you lose during the first meetings of the school. There are many abbreviations that are used by school administrators and school staff, and usually they do not believe that the fact that parents may not understand their ?language?. It is the parents to become familiar with the language of special education. In this article I will explain the importance of ten of the most important acronyms in special education.

IEP ? individual education plan.

The IEP is a document that lists the strengths and needs, and programs, services, accommodation and support required by a particular student. It lists the annual objectives in all areas of the replacement or modification and learning expectations for each term are determined by the student?s strengths and needs. A student does not formally as an exceptional student, will receive an IEP identified. TEACCH ? Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication handicapped children.
